Aurelio Amendola’s photography goes on stage in Pistoia
Aurelio Amendola, a prolific and brilliant Italian photographer, was born in Pistoia on January 19, 1938 and began his journey into the world of photography as a self-taught, and opened his first workshop – when he was only 20 years old – in his hometown.
Today it is his hometown that hosts, from the 8th of February to the 25th of July 2021, the exhibition “Aurelio Amendola: an anthology. Michelangelo, Burri, Warhol and the others” at the Pistoia Museums Foundation.
The anthology ,consisting of three hundred images, represents one of the richest exhibitions from the point of view of the material collected and aims to be a real celebration of the career of the Pistoian photographer.
Visitors have the opportunity to admire the beauty of the master’s shots between Palazzo Buontalenti and the Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi.
The exhibition itinerary, divided into the two sections of Ancient and Contemporary, offers images that do not stop at their being static but, on the opposite, they acquire their own concreteness.
Amendola, after all, is known for being the photographer of plasticity and sensuality, famous are his studies about the works of the giants of the past and in the exhibition – Ancient section – it is possible to admire the studies on masterpieces by Michelangelo, Bernini, Canova , Donatello, Pisano and many others.
The Contemporary section offers portraits of artists such as – just to name a few – Warhol, Manzù, Kounellis, Ceroli, Vedova, de Chirico, Burri and Lichtenstein.
An exhibition that is not to be missed, where the exposed shots blend with each other in a perfect figurative coherence.
The exhibition is organized by the Pistoia Museums Foundation – Pistoia Cultural Events S.c.r.l, with the contribution of the Caript Foundation. Sponsor Fondazione Caript | Media partner Sky Arte | Partner UnicoopFirenze | With the support of Comune di Pistoia
